DCA renews key WordWave contracts

The Department of Constitutional Affairs (DCA) has announced it’s to renew for another year a series of key court reporting and transcription contracts held by WordWave International.

The contracts include the provision of stenography services at Crown Courts in London and the West Country, as well as at the Court of Appeal. The DCA has also rolled forward WordWave’s contract for real-time reporting, along with its membership of the Tape Transcription Panel, a group of companies offering transcription services at other courts around the UK.

Anne Kiss, WordWave’s Head of UK Reporting says: “We’re delighted that the DCA has put its trust in us to provide these important services for another year. We successfully re-tendered for the contracts in 2004, in the face of stiff competition, and since then have worked hard to raise already high standards of accuracy and timeliness still further. The fact that we have retained this work is testament to the hard work and professionalism of all our reporters, transcribers and technicians, as well as the management team.”

As well as providing services on a day-to-day basis, WordWave is also working with the DCA on a pilot project to test digital audio recording in the Court of Appeal (Civil Division). The technique is already in use at courtrooms elsewhere in the world, including Singapore and Malaysia, where WordWave clients have found it a cost-effective alternative to traditional stenography.
