DWP appoints WordWave to specialist panel

The UK government’s Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has included WordWave on a panel of three preferred providers to supply Speech to Text services across the organisation.
Managers from the DWP, which includes Job Centres, Social Security offices, the Child Support Agency and the Pensions Service, will be able to ask for WordWave’s help when working with employees or customers with a hearing impairment. WordWave’s Speech to Text service lets people who are deaf or hard of hearing participate fully in meetings or other situations where speech plays a big part. Speech is transcribed in real time by one of WordWave’s trained reporters, either present at the meeting or remotely, from WordWave’s own offices. The transcript then appears on the user’s laptop, with only a few seconds’ delay, allowing them to see what’s being said. The service also provides an accurate and comprehensive written record of proceedings, which means participants don’t have to take notes. “Speech to Text is an exciting new service. Although in many ways a logical extension of our court reporting and transcription work, we’ve spent a long time making sure it meets new clients’ needs,” says WordWave Business Development Manager Jamie Pearce. “Now we’ve got the technology and the price right, it has huge potential to open up access for disabled people.” For more information on WordWave’s Speech to Text service, contact Jamie Pearce on 020 7421 4006 or at: jamie.pearce@wordwave.co.uk Links: www.dwp.gov.uk
