High-profile libel case turns to Merrill for support
Court reporting and interpretation services from Merrill Legal Solutions recently played a vital role in one of the most high profile libel cases to reach the High Court for years.
Proceedings started in March with Carter Ruck representing Sir Martin Sorrell in his e-libel claim against senior executives with Italian media company, FullSix, represented by Herbert Smith. The case is one of the first defamation actions to focus on blogs and e-traffic and as a result has attracted a lot of attention from the legal world.
Merrill Legal Solutions provided its trademark real-time reporting services for both Carter Ruck and Herbert Smith. Carter Ruck also required a remote connection to Italy where one of its witnesses was based. The case was to involve four days of Italian witnesses and one day of French witnesses and Merrill Legal Services had interpreters ready to supply a full interpretation service to both clients. However, the case settled before all of the witnesses were heard and only Italian interpretation was required.
Charlotte Tillett of Herbert Smith said: “This was a very demanding case which required Merrill Legal Solutions to provide a wide range of transcription, translation and interpreting services. Merrill was able to deal with all of these requirements, and did so with speed, efficiency and accuracy.”
Jayne Perry, UK Managing Director of Merrill Legal Solutions, said: “We pride ourselves on being able to provide bespoke litigation support solutions. Our expertise and experience enabled us to deliver an integrated range of services to the clients for this important case.”
