LiveNote® for London Terrorist Trial

The high profile trial of six men accused of planning suicide bombings in London just two weeks after the 7 July 2005 atrocities got under way on 15 January at Woolwich Crown Court. Merrill Legal Solutions is playing a key role in providing a number of high tech services to those inside the courtroom and to the media.

The Merrill team is providing a real-time transcription service to the Judge, barristers and solicitors involved who will receive (via an in-court wireless network set up by Merrill) an immediate transcript of evidence on their laptops. This evidence can then be analysed and annotated by the legal teams and the Judge using LiveNote® software to assist the lawyers in putting together their closing speeches and the Judge with his summing up. In a major project, Merril have installed state of the art hardware and software in court as well as giving extensive LiveNote® training to participants. Merrill will also be on hand throughout the trial (due to last between three and four months) to provide ongoing technical support and advice, which is all part of the high quality Merrill real-time transcription service.

In addition to the courtroom services, Merrill has also set up a live feed of certain key days of the trial to BSkyB and the BBC who are broadcasting live transcripts of opening, closing and summing up on SkyNews and BBC News 24.
