Ministry of Justice extends Merrill contract
Merrill Legal Solutions’ contract with the Ministry of Justice to supply real-time transcription services on an exclusive basis to the Crown Courts has been extended. The contract will run for an additional 18 months from 31st July 2008 to the end of January 2010.
Merrill Legal Solutions is the sole court reporting company authorised to provide real-time reporting services to criminal cases throughout England and Wales and has been providing these services for the past four years, meeting demanding contractual requirements for quality, accuracy and delivery.
Since the award of the contract in 2004 Merrill has provided real-time services to over 100 criminal cases, including complex fraud trials and long-running murder trials. More recently, Merrill has covered several sensitive prosecutions, including the De Menezes trial and the 21 July attempted London Underground bomb plot.
Merrill Legal Solutions’ UK Managing Director, Jayne Perry, said, "We are proud of our record in providing accurate and timely transcripts, and pleased that the quality of the service we provide continues to be recognised by the Ministry of Justice. The extension of this contract means that all parties, prosecuting agencies and appeal bodies can continue to receive the highest quality service at an extremely cost-efficient rate, delivering substantial benefits in terms of speed of proceedings. We are looking forward to continuing to provide real-time services to the prosecuting agencies and parties in the Crown Courts across England and Wales".
