Singapore Parliament pilot takes off

WordWave International Asia (WWIA) is running a pilot project with the Singapore Parliament to test out new state-of-the-art recording equipment.
The project, which started in April, aims to make the current system of recording and transcribing proceedings more efficient. At the moment, transcribers working at the Parliament have to manually collect recordings in person every 15 minutes, before taking them back to their desks for transcription. For the next three months, WWIA will be testing a system called FTR that allows transcribers to access audio and video recordings remotely, without leaving their workstations. Says Seow Kavin, WWIA’s Senior Technical Support Engineer: “As well as being much faster than the existing system, the new way of working is more flexible, with audio available not just in English but also in Chinese, Malay and Tamil. Transcribers simply select the language they require.” If the pilot is a success, it’s hoped the Singapore Parliament will upgrade its recording systems to FTR, leading to faster turn round times and higher levels of accuracy.
