WordWave International in live video streaming ‘first’
The deposition – sworn evidence taken from a witness in preparation for trial proceedings – took place on 7 April. WordWave’s client was the Dallas branch of its sister company LegaLink, which was in turn representing one of the deposition’s participants.
With many of the key interested parties based in the United States, LegalLink Dallas requested a live video streaming service, so pictures of the deposition could be broadcast via the Internet and viewed from a remote location.
To provide the service, WordWave used new software called LiveNote® Stream. It also worked closely with Courtroom Connect, a leading provider of communications support for litigation, including networking and video and teleconferencing.
Throughout the deposition, WordWave also supplied its popular real-time reporting service. First, a highly skilled stenographer captures what’s being said. Next, the stenography code is converted into text using specialist software, and a full transcript transmitted within seconds to the PCs or laptops of those taking part or observing.
“Over the last few years, our real-time reporting service has become indispensable, helping to speed up and streamline not just depositions but also public inquiries and major court cases,” says Nicholas Conway, WordWave’s Business Director.
“Live video streaming goes one step further. By allowing people outside the court to actually view proceedings, as well as read what’s being said, it can significantly cut down on travel and accommodation costs, making the legal process more efficient for everyone taking part.”
Feedback from those taking part in the deposition has been glowing, with LegalLink Dallas reporting: “Our client is extremely pleased. He was promoting us to all the other attorneys, saying we are at the cutting edge of technology. All in all, he could not have been more excited about the video streaming service.”
