Public Sector

Merrill Legal Solutions understands the requirements of the public sector for security and the sensitive handling of official information. We work with government agencies and other official bodies worldwide and have frequently been entrusted with highly confidential materials by parliamentary departments, court services, public prosecuting agencies and industry regulators. We are experienced in dealing with matters of the highest security, from Cabinet Office meetings and major incident investigations to criminal trials involving serious fraud and terrorism charges.

We are able to provide staff with various levels of security clearance to undertake projects either at our offices or client locations.

Merrill helps the public sector:

• On location – from transcription of witness and suspect interviews to preparing written records of covert recordings, phone calls and CCTV footage.

• When preparing evidence – scanning and objective coding of hard copy and electronic material to DVD disclosure services, subjective coding and sophisticated review tools accessible by the whole case team wherever they are based.

• At trials and hearings – providing a range of solutions, from simple stenography to real-time transcription and high-tech electronic presentation of evidence services.

Our public sector clients include court services in England and Wales, the Republic of Ireland, The States of Jersey, Singapore, Australia, Sri Lanka and Malaysia; criminal prosecutors like the Crown Prosecution Service, the Serious Fraud Office, the Australian Attorney General’s Department, the Singapore Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Hong Kong Department of Justice; regulators such as the Financial Services Authority, the Healthcare Commission, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and the Competition Commission; professional self-regulatory bodies such as the Law Society; and various NHS Trusts. We hold 42 public sector contracts, the most long-standing of which we first won in 1955, and have an excellent track record of meeting and exceeding contractual requirements as well as retaining contracts following their re-tender.
