Why use Merrill Legal Solutions?
Merrill’s pool of reporters capture the spoken word, writing at speeds of up to 220wpm, to the highest, consistent standards of accuracy providing an instantaneous record as a judge delivers his or her verdict or a press announcement is made. Merrill reporters, technical team, equipment and software enable the broadcaster to deliver fast, accurate news using tried and tested technical solutions.
How does it work?
Our reporters are trained to produce word-for-word transcripts in real-time. The text of court cases can appear on television screens almost instantaneously and this service grants virtually instant access to verdicts, judgments and statements.
A live feed can relay straight to air, Internet or desktop computer and can even be sent directly to news desks, advancing journalists a verbatim account of breaking events as they unfold.
Who uses this service?
In 2005, Merrill Legal Solutions joined forces with Sky News to broadcast for the first time live text from the proceedings of a court under UK jurisdiction (Abu Ghraib military courts service prosecutions). Since then we have provided broadcasting services from a number of high profile trials including the Osnabruck courts martial verdicts, Sion Jenkins re-trials, Abu Hamza, Anthony Walker and Damilola Taylor trials and the Deepcut Inquest. Both Sky News and BBC News 24 use our services regularly to strengthen their rolling television broadcasts and relay verdicts as they happen.
