Electronic Presentation of Evidence

Merrill Legal Solutions offers a range of courtroom solutions designed to enable the presentation of evidence “live” on computer screens around the hearing room. The use of these technologies provides a practical alternative to paper trial bundles and a clearer picture of the evidence in complex cases.

Why use Merrill Legal Solutions?

Merrill provides a comprehensive range of integrated services, ranging from consultancy and training to the implementation of complex technical infrastructures and the provision of real-time transcription. These services are supported by skilled teams of legal consultants, project managers and technical experts who have significant experience in supporting legal professionals in multiple locations and with varying legal or technical needs.

How does it work?

There are three key components: hardware, software and a system operator. The hardware element comprises a number of monitors around the courtroom, a system control computer and a high-speed network connecting the display monitors to the control. The software on the control computer allows the operator to recall and display individual documents on demand.

When the evidence is more complex we work with our clients to utilise cost effective but highly flexible services to provide sophisticated reconstructions of locations and sequences of events using computer graphics to present the case more effectively to a Judge or a jury.

Who uses this service?

Merrill’s work in supporting the presentation of evidence in court has involved some of the most high profile cases in the last few years including the trial surrounding the death of Jean Charles de Menezes and the Diana and Dodi Inquests. We have also provided services for serious fraud and money laundering trials on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service, the Serious Fraud Office and HM Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office.
